July 26 2013, Friday -- Our last morning on Glover's Reef was brief. After an early breakfast, we sped off on the speedboat for close to 3 hours, to Belize City. (The floor of the boat started getting wet. The driver sped on and the rest of us were silently nervous.) A civilised shower and the switch to civilian clothes were very much looked-forward to, and off we went to the Tavern again. Another feast was in order to celebrate the end of a successful field week.

As we had hours to spare, we booked for an afternoon guide to take us to Altun Ha. Altun Ha is the nearest Mayan ruin to the city, some 45 minutes' drive away. It is a small and concise compound, but the largest sun god jade stone was reputed to have been recovered from Altun Ha. It was quite remarkable to stand on such ancient grounds.

I don't know about you, but I'm open to the idea of other life forms apart from those on Earth... However, only seeing is believing?

Our last evening in Belize was rounded up with margaritas and seafood by the sea.

    1. Imagine the larger sites buried in the jungle... Those must be massive.
