CD Diary: Selangor, Malaysia (Day 1/4) - University of Nottingham

30.May.12, Wednesday -- The night before was spent taking a nice hot shower, packing equipment, and checking things twice. It was a short sleep in Singapore; before we could fall into deep sleep, we had to haul ourselves to the airport by 6:00AM.

Destination: Kuala Lumpur airport.

We then were met up by hosts and colleagues at the Kuala Lumpur airport, who graciously brought us to a hotel in Kajang some 45-50 minutes away, followed by a quick lunch. By 2:00PM, it was down to work at the University of Nottingham, Malaysia campus, hosted by the MEME team.

Later that afternoon, it was time to take the plane out to the field -- the campus' soccer pitch was perfect.

It was quite an exciting afternoon, and we ended the day with the MEME group by having some local treats!

Cross the border and we call the same thing in a different name; what is 'ice (or ais) kacang' in Singapore is 'ABC' in Malaysia. Air Batu Campur.
I treated myself to a sweet drink, one that I haven't had in ages, Bandung. Probably nothing to do with the Indonesian city, Bandung, since there is no bandung drink in Bandung. Is there?

That was indeed some glorious satay, and I'm happy to say that I've tried some of the famous Sate Kajang while in Kajang.

  1. It's still known as ais kacang in many other places in Malaysia. I guess they have several names for it :)
