Sister's Visit: Day 12: Zeughauskeller

This is a little recap of my sister's visit from a couple of months ago. She spent 12* days in Zürich, in 2 separate weeks. Final day = Day 12 = June 17 2009, Wednesday.
*Was 11 days. The flight for the 17th got cancelled.

I've never eaten at a Swiss Restaurant. What is Swiss food, anyway?
(Don't say Fondue. It can't just be Fondue.) Let's have lunch at Zeughauskeller. This Swiss restaurant is famous for something. Ah, yes, meat and sausages!
I just love how the server gave us the option of a menu other than German.
"Koreanisch? Japanisch?" Englisch bitte, danke.

Uff! The potato salad was really, really delicious.

That was a HUGE lunch!

We desperately needed to walk off the lunch, i.e. Shopping along Bahnhofstrasse.

And come on, when in Zürich, you've got to try the much raved-about Luxemburgerlis from Lindt.
(Left to Right: Chocolate, Champagne, and Caramel.)

The copious amounts of cheeses caught my sister's wonder.

Have you tried bringing fresh cheese onboard a plane?
Apparently, you can, said the tour guide from the day before.
Have them nicely wrapped, carry it/them with you, and hand them over to the steward/ess for cold storage during your flight. The only problem is trying to remember to retrieve it at your destination.
With that knowledge, my sister got herself a good load of cheese souvenirs.

How's this for a cheesy, corny moment:
"OMG, that is Swiss roll," commented my sister. Never too late to realise this.
We have to have a Swiss roll while in Swiss-land, right?

So, thank you for enduring this 12-day marathon with me!

How about a recap:

  2. OOh, those luxemburgeli look like French macarons, which are just wonderful...

I shall have to remember the cheese on plane trick - we often bring back cheese from the UK, as the boys like good English hard cheese!

  5. Apparently you can also take fondue forks in your carry-on luggage in Switzerland. But not in France. In France they take it away. I learned this the hard way :)

  6. We love the food and atmosphere at Zeughauskeller too. My husband actually said today we should go there tomorrow night, but then I said it's time we also try some place new! And I've been wanting to try the Luxemburgerli. That's still on my list!
